
About Dr. Syeda Zerin Imam
Dr. Syeda Zerin Imam is a dynamic public health researcher, experienced dentist, microbiologist, passionate painter, and visionary entrepreneur. With a strong commitment to science, healing, and creativity, she works tirelessly to improve health outcomes and uphold human dignity across Bangladesh and beyond.
Academic and Professional Background
Dr. Imam completed her school and college education at the prestigious Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka. She earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Dhaka University in 2009 and her Master of Public Health (MPH) from North South University, Dhaka in 2015. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Public Health at the School of Public Health, Shandong University, China. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the determinants and consequences of adolescent pregnancy and maternal morbidity in Bangladesh.
She began her dental journey in 2007 and has accumulated over 15 years of rich clinical experience. She worked as a Freelance Dentist and served as a Medical Officer at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and BIRDEM Hospital, gaining advanced expertise in emergency dental procedures and managing medically compromised patients. Since 2022, she has been successfully running her own modern dental practice, Kalpana Dental Clinic in Kuril, Dhaka.
Research Experience
Dr. Syeda Zerin Imam brings over a decade of impactful research experience across national and international platforms. She served as a Consultant for the World Bank-supported Good Neighbor Series. At Shandong University, she is actively involved in high-level studies on suicide attempts among young women with adolescent pregnancy, teenage drug addiction, adolescent pregnancy and maternal morbidity, Chikungunya as an emerging threat, catastrophic health expenditure among diabetes patients, and rural-urban disparities in childhood vaccination.
She has a strong focus on dental research. At BIRDEM Hospital, she contributed to an important study exploring the relationship between dental diseases, coronary artery disease, and diabetes in Bangladesh. During her MPH at North South University, she conducted research on oral health issues in vulnerable populations.
She previously conducted wet-lab research at the Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST), Malaysia, evaluating the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of Phyllanthus acidus fruit extract.
She has actively participated in several public health conferences in China and attended BMRC public health research trainings in Dhaka, further strengthening her expertise in research methodology and public health policy.
Notably, she authored and presented a well-received research paper on the Belt and Road Initiative titled “One Belt One Road One Mind for All” at an international Belt and Road Conference.
Creative Contributions
A talented artist, Dr. Imam has held several painting exhibitions, designed book covers, and provided proofreading services for numerous books, beautifully blending her creative talent with academic and professional excellence.
Activism and Social Contributions
Dr. Syeda Zerin Imam is a passionate humanitarian activist. She actively rescues victims from slaughter, burning incidents, and road accidents, and saves abandoned puppies from neglect and societal cruelty. She leads impactful anti-tobacco campaigns and diabetes awareness programs, while advocating for safe dental treatment protocols for diabetic patients.
Professional and Entrepreneurial Journey
As a successful entrepreneur, Dr. Imam founded I Corp Limited and Sinord International Limited. She is a Member of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) and has previously served as Preparatory Secretariat Member of the Association of Bangladesh China Alumni and Executive Committee Member of Shuprovat Nari Progoti Sangstha.
Her mission is to eliminate suffering and protect human dignity through kindness, hard work, and effective communication.
